PG2 IS DONTE TAARIQ (PROBABLY) AT HIS BEST. BUT I'M CONVINCED HE'S ALWAYS AT HIS BEST. IT'S A BIAS I'M PROUD OF.
My favorite track on DONTE TAARIQ recently released PG2 is a 5 minute dream come true: "Heart of Gold" i can't exaggerate that it could be the length of an entire (what we used to call) album, it still wouldn't be enough. But we can't put that kind of pressure on a man i'll label as a Genius in a heartbeat. Proof is that DONTE TAARIQ can rhyme about a simple day with a girl, and next minute he's philosophizing about time, cosmology and sciences i have no intention to learn. If DONTE TAARIQ is sharing knowledge about it in his Poetry, i will learn it by default, as many times as i wanna repeat his music.
:
"Heart of Gold" isn't his most complex piece. It's nothing i'd want to attempt even i was a decent rhymer (which i'm not). To say it's not his most complex though only means that i can learn it in my mind after, 1 year, instead of a year and a half. It's an adventurous piece of music with the usual DONTE balancing act; self-awareness (i'm DONTE TAARIQ, and i'm greater than most) vs. humility (i'm great but i try not to tell the same person how great i am more than 10 times a day).
"Heart of Gold" has so much greatness going on lyrically that space doesn't permit me to list it all. The most honest line just might be this one:
"it's something i deserve, you say i ain't got skills, well you got a lotta nerve ... you can follow me with no apology, God talk thru me."
Final thought: DONTE TAARIQ is the sound of independence in its rawest form. "Heart of Gold" could sum up the Poet as we know him up until now. Is he about to create something unexpected, surprising and controversial to the point that it becomes the best topic in town to debate about?
Only the Poet knows. It's a good feeling though to know that being a fan of DONTE TAARIQ means though you may have no money some days, there's a "Heart of Gold" promising us we are never really poor. And no-one and no-thing can change that fact.
